Darin Sewell asked:

Today more then ever there is a growing number of people over burdened by debt they cannot pay down. A side effect to this problem is that many consumers now have very low credit scores, this makes getting a more affordable loan to consolidate the debt they do have next to impossible. It just seems like a vicious circle to many people caught up in it.

Although there are companies that can help you increase your credit score the average cash strapped person just cannot afford to pay for this type of service. All hope is not lost because there are self credit repair kits available that can help the consumer fix their own credit report for a lot less money then a paid service charges. The decision to purchase a self credit repair kit that includes a good credit repair letter template for you to use is a critical first step towards better credit and getting a good debt consolidation loan.

The importance of a good credit repair letter template cannot be over emphasized. Without the proper formatting and all the required information listed, your dispute letter may not be properly recognized by the credit reporting agencies. An improper letter will cause many delays and prolong your credit repair process. A properly formatted letter will increase your chances at having derogatory accounts removed from your credit report.

A good credit clean up guide should have everything you need to accomplish your credit goals. However the credit repair letter template is the most important tool that you will need in your efforts so be sure that the kit or Ebook you purchase contains this very important piece of information.

Michele

Peter Crump asked:

Self credit repair is basically the only way you can repair your bad credit. No one can do it for you, although they can give you advice. You have to really sit down and take a good look at your credit repair and then decide for yourself how you want to go about tackling the problem. Self credit repair is not that difficult to do, but you do have to make a conscientious effort. Self credit repair works.

There are times when everyone overextends themselves and finds that they are short of money. You may have to postpone paying one bill this month and paying double the next. However, this shows up unfavourably on your credit report and results in a lower credit score. If there are only one or two items of this nature on your credit report, it is not too detrimental, bit if it happens every month, then you really do need to focus on ways of doing self credit repair. Start with your credit report and repair it yourself by taking a good look at your financial situation.

First of all, start your self credit repair by preparing a monthly budget. List all your payments and them your income. You have to include groceries and emergency funds in the list of expenses. If your expenses amount to more than what you are bringing in, then you might need to avail of professional counselling instead of doing the credit report repair yourself. A counsellor will sit down with you and go over the credit report. He/She will offer advice as to what you can do to start repairing your credit.

Debt consolidation is one way you can do self credit repair. You might say you don’t want to take out another loan and have more payments, but once you pay off all the bills, you are left with one monthly payment. More than likely, the amount is less than the total you were paying. Cutting up your credit cards is another means of doing credit report repair yourself. When the temptation to use them is not there, all of your payments go to reducing your debt. Even if you make all your payments on time, it is not a good idea to have your credit report show that you have used all your available credit. However, you can keep one card, just in case an emergency arises while you are in the process of self credit repair.

Self credit repair is the best credit repair, as long as you know what you are doing.

Mary

Paul Rogers asked:

With personal debt at an all-time high, a number of individuals have found that they have overextended themselves and have become immersed in debt. As their debt grows, they can’t help but get more and more behind and their credit score pays the price. If you are one of the many who have had problems with your credit in the past (or still have problems with it), you may be considering credit repair as a way to get back on track.

Before you sign up for a credit repair plan, you should make sure that you understand exactly what is involved in repairing your credit score… while there are a lot of repair agencies that are legitimate, there are also some that seek to prey on those who need help and perform services that are both immoral and illegal.

What Is It?

Obviously, the goal of credit repair is to improve your credit score and get you back on track financially after past credit problems. A variety of services exist, providing everything from credit counselling and debt negotiation to debt consolidation loans and budgeting advice. When used properly, they can not only help you to get caught up with your bills and on the path to a better credit score but they can help you to avoid bankruptcy and set you up to avoid credit problems in the future.

Credit repair takes time, however, and should never be viewed as a “quick fix” for your credit. If an offer claims that they can instantly grant you new credit, then it’s likely not only bogus but can also get you into legal trouble if you accept it.

Common Types

As mentioned above, credit repair can take several different forms. Credit counselling services provide assistance with the budgeting and repayment of your debts, and offer advice on simple ways to improve your credit without additional loans. They also often provide debt negotiation, which is the working out of a settlement with your creditors so that you only have to repay a portion of your original debt within a certain timeframe.

Debt consolidation loans are also used for the purposes of credit repair, allowing you to take out a loan in order to pay off outstanding debts and leaving you with a single monthly loan payment instead of several different payments. Budgeting assistance services are also available to help you get control of your spending and personal finances.

Avoiding Scams

Unfortunately, there will always be unsavory individuals who seek to make money off of those who are in need of assistance.

Any credit repair service that promises instant results or that offers to simply create a new credit report for you should be avoided… what they’re really creating is a business tax identification number, and any individual who uses one is in danger of being charged with fraud and possibly other charges. If an offer sounds too good to be true, then it likely is.

Repairing Your Own Credit

Of course, by paying off old debts and establishing and maintaining new lines of credit you can begin the process of credit repair yourself. Request a copy of your credit report and check it for errors, and then focus on clearing the debts that appear as negative reports.

It may take years for all of the negative reports to expire, but by preventing new ones while increasing your positive reports your credit score will slowly rise on its own.

Dale

Irena Bocheva asked:

Are you planning to apply for an auto or mortgage loan, but fear being turned down by creditors? Do you want to raise your FICO because a potential employer is conducting a mandatory credit check? Do you simply want to get rid of debt and start with a clean credit slate? Whatever your specific situation is, fixing credit score is always a good idea.

Here are 3 possible routes that will take you to the land of “better credit”.

1 The hard way.

This is the most popular and most laborious way to raise credit score. According to the mainstream credit advisers credit repair can only be achieved through careful budget planning, financial discipline and patience. In order to succeed you have to take a look at your income, track monthly expenditures, curb any unnecessary spending and and start paying off your debt. Slowly but surely you’ll work your way up to a better credit. There are various caveats associated with this long term approach to a better credit. For example, most of the people that need better credit score can’t wait years to see the positive results. They need that house or brand new car NOW, not later. Besides, people with outstanding credit debt have to spend literally decades of their lives paying off what they owe. Last, but not least-paying off your debt in full can sometimes harm your report and lower your score. For example, paying off a collection that is more than 2 years old will upgrade the account status to current. The bad debt (although now paid) will continue to influence your score adversely and will stay on your report for additional 7 years.

2 The expensive way.

A lot of people feel helpless and overwhelmed when it comes to credit repair. They turn to credit repair services and pay exorbitant fees hoping to see their score skyrocket soon. What are the problems associated with this type of credit repair? First, there are many scam services out there which prey on the huge crowd of misinformed people. Typical tell-tale signs that you are dealing with scam services is when they ask for the money upfront or when they don’t inform you of your legal rights. The second problem is that these companies simply do the things you can do yourself IF you had enough credit knowledge.

3 The smart way.

This is the fastest and most painless way to a better credit. The only requirement-knowledge about the credit system and the various loopholes in it. Do you know what’s the formula behind your FICO score? Which 2 credit factors account for more than 30% of your final credit score? How many points does each type of negative item take away from your credit report (bankruptcy, foreclosure, loan default, collection, legal judgment, late payment, credit inquiry etc)? Do you know how to get credit bureaus, collection agencies and original creditors to delete items from your record? Do you know how to file Rapid Rescore and remove mistakes on your report within 48 hours? Do you know how to bring your credit card balances to the “healthy zone” (30% balance to limit ratio) without paying off your balances? How to settle with collection agencies for less than 20 % of what you actually owe? In a nutshell-the more you know about the credit system, the faster you will see positive credit results.

Fixing credit score is not than hard. Knowledge about the credit system and the little known secrets in it will boost your credit in no time. Once you start thinking outside the credit box, you’ll be surprised to find how easy credit repair actually is.

Jose

Stephanie N asked:

I am trying to repair my credit by sending debt settlement letters to the collections agencies listed on my credit report, but they are not being cooperative. Most are saying they CANNOT settle the debt nor are they willing to delete the listing from my credit report after the debt had been paid. I don’t trust any of these non profit credit counselors, but I need some guidance. I am begining to lose hope that this is even worth the trouble. Any advise?

Allen
