Ryan J. Taylor asked:

Credit repair is not just for people who are not credit worthy. Anyone at any credit score can quickly increase their credit rating with just a few easy steps. Those who need to fix bad credit, however, will see the biggest improvement in their score by following these simple steps. As a result, not only will you be able to secure better rates on your loan, but you won’t have to worry about being denied for a rental application, a new job, or your home and auto insurance policy.

Whether you had a string of trouble that damaged your credit, or you just want to polish your credit report before you submit your mortgage application, these steps will help you boost your rating and make your more attractive to creditors and lenders.

1. Pay Your Bill: Obviously, your credit score is a direct reflection of how good you are at paying your bills on time, but it is important to stress exactly how vital this is to having a good credit score. If you have been routinely late in the past, change this behavior now so you can get on good graces with your creditor. Once you’ve established that you have turned a corner, they may be willing to remove the late payment incidents from your credit report, which would instantly increase your score.

2. Use Your Credit Cards: Contrary to popular belief that you should close your credit card accounts as a credit repair strategy, this will actually hurt you for two reasons. Once, your credit score looks at how much available credit you have been extended, and two, lenders want to see a long credit history. By closing your accounts you effectively eliminate both of those cases. Instead, use your credit cards liberally and pay them off in full each month. By doing this you maintain an active credit file that shows you are capable of managing debt, which lenders like to see.

3. Increase Available Credit: Your credit score looks at your available credit to debt ratio. In other words, the more credit you have but have not used, the better. Paying off your debts is an obvious way to do this, but you can also ask your credit card companies to raise your spending limit. A quick phone call can instantly improve your rating, as long as you don’t abuse that limit increase.

4. Pay More than the Minimum: By increasing your payments on your outstanding debt you effectively manage to tackle a number of credit repair strategies. For one, you improve your available credit to debt ratio. You also establish yourself as someone who is a responsible consumer and capable of managing money and debt effectively. All good things in the eyes of a lender.

5. Review Your Credit Report: There is a one in four chance that there are errors on your credit report, and these errors could be unfairly hurting your credit score. You should review your credit report every four months and immediately contact the reporting agency to notify them of any errors. By law they have 30 days to investigate and respond to anything you bring to their attention.

These five things will get you started with your credit repair process, but there are many more quick fixes that can instantly increase your credit score. Take the time to clean up your rating before applying for a loan or asking for credit, and lenders will be begging to do business with you.

Dawn

Tom Tessin asked:

Within days of getting our first credit card we can bring on more debt than we ever thought. Good credit is easy to have, but bad credit is even easier to have. Just a few mistakes of not paying on time, not paying at all, or just going over your credit card limit can hurt you.

If you find yourself with bad credit and no way to fix it, there are ways! You don’t have to live with bad credit the rest of your life nor do you have to get help from a professional and pay money for it. Bad credit is a thing that many people have and a thing that many people have overcome. If you’d like to become someone that has turned their bad credit into excellent credit, consider a few of these tips and turn your bad credit around!

How to Fix Bad Credit

Discipline: First of all, to have good credit you need discipline. Make sure you’re paying your bills off as much as possible, on time and you know your limits. Don’t go over your credit limit because this can really hurt your score. Also, just remember this every time you’re about to buy something – if I don’t have the money for this, I shouldn’t be buying it. This will help keep you out of debt and from bringing even more on.

Know your dates: If you have more than one credit card, you need to write down on the calendar when your bills are due. It is important to never miss a payment because if you do you will find your score really dropping. So, know when your bills are due for each card and stay organized.

Limit yourself: Also, don’t open anymore accounts. The more accounts you have open, the more your score will drop! This is because the more accounts you have open the more debt you are capable of bringing on. So, try not to use more than one or two credit cards and avoid opening anymore.

Fixing your credit can be hard to do at first. It takes time and a lot of discipline. For some it may take years. Although, you can’t let anything get in the way or discourage you. You need to have good credit for many things. So, if you want to get out for good, consider a few of the tips above and just make sure you know your limits and your numbers!

Kristin

Ryan J. Taylor asked:

Everyone has at least a few things on their credit report that they may not necessarily be proud of. But these negative marks do not have to remain on your report. There are some quick, easy strategies you can follow to wipe your credit clean and instantly boost your score as much as 100 points.

By removing the negative items on your file, you’ll increase your credit rating, which is a good thing for many reasons. Beyond helping you get approved for loans, your score is important because it is reviewed by employers, landlords, and even your auto insurance rate is determined by your score. In addition, credit card companies will not only determine how much your rates are, but how high your spending limits are.

The first step to quickly remove the negative items that are hurting your personal credit rating is to pull all three of your credit reports and review them carefully. Three out of four credit reports contain errors that don’t belong there, and identifying these mistakes can allow you to instantly increase your score.

There may be something as minor as a misspelling in your address or previous employer, but you want to specifically look for accounts in collection that don’t belong to you, credit cards that are listed as late that you closed years ago, and other delinquencies that are just not true. By law, these mistakes must be removed and your credit score will increase. However, because each of your reports list different items, it is critical to review all three files closely.

Johnny

Wesley Atkins asked:

Do you have a poor credit rating? If so, you are one of tens of thousands of Americans with the same problem. In fact, it seems that this has become a national ‘disease.’ And just what do people need that have a disease? They need a cure.

Here are some sure-fire solutions to ‘ repair bad credit ‘. Keep in mind, like most ‘diseases,’ credit repair can take some time, but complete healing is possible.

The First Step

The first thing you need to do is find out what is being reported about you. This is easy and inexpensive. For under $10, you can get your credit report from one of the three main credit reporting companies: Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion. Keep in mind however, that if you have recently been denied credit, you can get a free report from the same credit bureau the lender used to reject you as long as you do so within 30 days.

What You Don’t Need

You don’t need a repair clinic. Why? There is no legal way to ‘repair’ your credit. Those that claim to know loopholes and shortcuts are merely out for your money. They may even get you into legal trouble by having you fudge the facts or creating a whole new file for you. Anything legal that a clinic can do, you can do just as easily and without the cost of ‘professional’ help.

Further Steps to Take

1. Stop using your credit cards immediately. Put them somewhere where they will not tempt you. You may consider keeping at least one card for emergency purposes. Additionally, with poor credit, you may find it more difficult to get a credit card in the future. If you keep at least one account open, then you won’t have to worry about applying.

2. Be Honest With Yourself. Taking a good hard look at your financial situation, particularly if it isn’t good, can be very difficult. Yet, to get out debt you have to fully understand what the situation is.

3. Find the Errors. Believe it or not, up to 40% of all credit reports have errors in them. If you find that your credit report shows something that is not true, you need to write to them with all the details. Be sure to use certified mail so that you can keep track of who you wrote to, when you wrote, and who received the mail on the credit bureau’s end. Then ask the credit bureau to send a corrected report to anyone who has requested a report on you in the last 6 months.

4. Find the Omissions. By law, you are allowed to add information to your report that you believe will help your rating. This might be additional information about a repayment of a loan, good credit you have with companies that do not report to the credit bureau, or salary increases.

5. You Must Have a Plan. Whether you determine to pay your bills down little at a time, take a second job, go to credit counseling, or file bankruptcy, you need to make a plan and stick to it. In order for your credit to be improved, you have to have a plan and then take action!

6. Talk to those that you owe. Creditors want their money. They do not want you to default (quit paying). In fact, most creditors will work with you to get a reduced payment schedule. If you can keep them from reporting you to the credit bureau, then it won’t hurt your credit. The catch here is this: be sure to stick to the new negotiated plan – they won’t renegotiate if you fail to comply.

7. The Best Cure is Time. Have you ever heard the saying ‘time heals all wounds’? It also heals your credit. After 7 years, most items will be dropped. This is good news if you are working to correct your credit. As each year passes, more and more bad items will drop off and more and more good items will be included. Eventually, the disease will be cured.

Follow these steps and you will find that your credit looks healthier and healthier each day. Eventually this path will lead you to full recovery. Good Luck!

Amy
